    Program Information:
    The Public Health Education Program is designed to:

    • Prepare students with the knowledge and skills to assess community needs and design, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs.
    • Focus on improving quality of life and overall well-being of individuals, worksites, and communities through behavioral, environmental, and policy-based initiatives.
    • Expand the credentials of students entering health related professions and/or advanced areas of related study.

    The Public Health Education program is a “Gated” program, requiring admission by the PHE Admissions Committee in the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education.  Admission into the Public Health Education major will be based on completion of the following:

    • 60 hours of Public Health Education program requirements (including Public Health Education prerequisites and general education requirements) with an overall Adjusted Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.5 or higher
    • WELL 1000, STAT 1107, and HPE 2250 completed with a C or better in each
    • PHE 2100 and PHE 2400 completed with a C or better in each
    • Application for admission, including two faculty recommendations and a statement of future career goals

    This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses based on the Public Health Education degree requirements and course prerequisites in the Fall 2018 Undergraduate Catalog. (If course prerequisites change, you must meet the prerequisites in effect when you take the course, so always check the current Catalog for course prerequisites.)

    1. Must earn a grade of "C" or better in coursework.
    2. PHE Program Capstone Experience, HPE 4750, is required for completion of program.
